Give Yourself A Nickname Once you have your account and access to the server, you will need to update your nickname in the chapter server. If you are part of multiple servers, this will only affect the chapter server. To rename yourself, open Discord from the web browser and click on the little User Settings cog wheel beside your username at the bottom left corner.
Once you open the User Settings menu, go to the Profiles section. At the top of the page, select the Server Profiles tab and choose the Columbus Alumnae server. Once you've selected the chapter server, please change your nickname to be your first and last name (or last initial) and if you hold an executive board position please add it in parentheses. If you hold a committee chair position you can add that in the parentheses as well though it's not required.
Once you have made the change click the green Save Changes button at the bottom of the screen. This will update your name on the server and make it easier to identify you in group chats.
Mute Channels If you do not want or need to receive notifications for specific channels you can mute them and only receive notifications for the information you want. First, select the channel you want to change the notification settings for. Once selected, click the bell icon in the top right corner of the screen. From here you can mute the channel entirely, or you can select the specific ways you want to receive notifications from the channel.
Discord is not a required part of chapter life, but it is a very useful communication tool when used effectively. If you have any questions on how to do these housekeeping items please contact someone from the Executive Board and we can help you work through it!
